Camp Ramblewood...NOT

An exciting new experience awaits our campers this year. Camp Ramblewood was not honoring their contract with us by not providing us with all the facilities and meals etc. promised. He has 200 runners coming the same week we were, and the bottomline was that he didn't really want us. We were not about to send your kids to a crap hole, but what were we going to do? Walt and Wayne to the rescue! It had been suggested to us that we hold camp on a college campus, but we never really needed to look in that direction until now. Walt Powell got on the phone and contacted East Stroudsburg University (my alma mater) and they went out of their way to accomodate us. They will be delighted to have us. They have four bands there the week before us. A lot of the facilities are air-conditioned, there will be several choices of foods at each meal, we can use the football stadium and it will be clean!! It costs a little more, but ESU will accept what we already had earmarked for camp to help us out. Next year will cost a little more for camp since we'll be paying their normal fee.

CHAPERONES

A list of assignments will be available soon. If you cannot chap on a night you have been assigned, get a friend to switch or simply call Terry Stephens as soon as possible so she may secure a replacement. Please don't assume we don't need you! Everyone is important and has some job to do. We can make it happen only with your help!!

CAMP CANTEEN

Don't forget to send in those snacks and drinks on Saturday Aug. 18th when we pack for camp!! We appreciate your donation for this worthy cause. Even though we will be on a college campus with terrific food service and a student union, the hours may not always be conducive to students being able to use them during break and free times. Besides, we can sell it cheaper. Anything your kid likes will do except for chocolate: juices, sodas, iced tea, chips, cookies, candy, etc.

SUMMER CAR WASH BLUES

What a great job all your advertising did! Along with the great weather we pulled in almost $500. Thanks to the many kids & adult helpers. Be sure and pick up a flyer tonight to advertise our last one on Aug. 11.

THREE CHEERS FOR A JOB WELL-DONE!!

E-Mail addresses

PONDELICK: Your earthlink keeps coming back to me. Thanks for everyone's response. I beleive I now have everyone in the book...unless you don't want to be. You can always be added. Just e-mail me at dmike14@home.com

MANDATORY FUND RAISER

When we return from camp all members will be receiving their 11 raffle tickets to sell. Think of it this way- sell the tickets and the profit in your student's account will pay for their band shoes. If you buy one or two you might get lucky and win money back. You are responsible for the $55 worth of tickets. Your account will be charged for them whether you sell them or not.

Thanks to Wayne Szynal who has graciously volunteered to help develop and print our ad book.

Building Interest

A new twist to attract future freshmen to the band is being looked into. We would like to invite the 8th graders up to a football game and join the band in the stands. They can play the fight song and other bleacher music and watch the halftime show. This will help them connect with old friends from Middle School band and show them that we do have some fun. Mr. Adam & Mr. Rowlyk are putting their heads together about logistics.

SENIOR PARENTS

We know it's a little farther to come, but try to get up to camp for our senior banquet on Wed. night at 5:15. You could take the day off and enjoy the Poconos before dinner. Visit the outlets in Tannersville, the Christmas Store & Candle shop near Marshalls Creek. This is the first of many important honors for them this year not only with band, but everything. Senior year is a great journey from beginning to end. Share it with them; they'll be gone soon!!
